The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has urged Corps Members to reciprocate the N77,000 monthly allowance being paid to them by the federal government by contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

He also has called on corps members to use social media responsibly and contribute positively to national development.

Speaking to the 2025 Batch ‘A’ (Stream I) corps members at the temporary orientation camp located at Government College, Kurmi Marshi, Kaduna during his work visit to the camp, Brig-Gen Nafiu restated the importance of digital responsibility.

“Make good content, don’t insult anybody. Use social media to interact, entertain, and even work—but always responsibly,” he advised.

The Director General commended the NYSC as a vital initiative of the Nigerian government, lauding its role in building bridges across religious, tribal, and ethnic divides.

He attributed the establishment of the scheme to the vision of General Yakubu Gowon, adding that it fosters unity and nurtures the spirit of “One Nigeria.”

The DG praised the discipline shown by the corps members and expressed gratitude to the Kaduna State Government for being a supportive host, noting that efforts are ongoing to relocate the orientation camp to a permanent site and promised to address the challenges raised by the State Coordinator on the camp facilities.

Highlighting the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, he urged corps members to fully engage with the initiative as a path to self-reliance.
