BENIN CITY: Lucky Obukohwo, Reporting
Normalcy has finally returned to the Roads Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) as the leadership of the union decided to bury their hatchets and allow peace prevail by affirming Charles Momoh as the legitimate chairman in Edo.
Comrade Richard Aimienoho, Deputy National President, Planning and Logistics, disclosed this in Benin, while briefing journalists on the current situation of RTEAN in the state.
Aimienoho said the current state chairman, Monday Orhue, who was imposed by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration, agreed to step down on November 12.
“We have met with Orhue, and Orhue, will step down on November 12, allowing Momoh to continue the truncated tenure.
“Momoh, formerly Deputy State Chairman (Administration), is completing the tenure of Sunday Erhahon, who resigned due to health reasons.
“After completing Erhahon’s tenure, Momoh can contest to begin his own tenure if he so desire.” he said.
The association also added that Osakpanmwan Eriyo, who allegedly sought to take over the association in the state, having served as state chairman and later national president, is no longer a member.
“Eriyo was expelled from the association for constitutional violations and removed by the Industrial Court for violating the RTEAN constitution
“Eriyo has been expelled from the association.” he said
Aimienoho added, “Eriyo forcefully installed himself as national president but was removed by the Industrial Court for violating our constitution.
The court reinstated Alhaji Musa Muhammed.
“We follow our constitution, and Eriyo’s expulsion was immediate after losing his case.
“Recent attacks in public places, allegedly linked to a new government, are not from us.”
In the suit NICN/Abj/278/2019, Justice O. Y. Anuwe ruled, “The 1st Defendant’s (
( Osakpanmwan Eriyo) ascension to the National President office clearly violated Article 6A2(n) of the amended constitution, and is illegal, null, and void.”
It is however believes that the resolution of the leadership crisis will henceforth bring stability to the RTEAN in the state.
