A Russian court on Tuesday, sentenced two exiled journalists, Ruslan Leviev and Michael Nacke, to 11 years in prison for spreading “misinformation” about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The prosecutors said the pair posted a video online last March with false information about Russia’s military, AFP report.

Nacke is a 29-year-old ex-radio host turned YouTuber with 1.4 million subscribers, where he publishes daily reports on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Leviev, whose real name is Ruslan Karpuk, is the co-founder of the independent war monitor Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT), which conducts open-source investigations of the Russian military.

Both Nacke and Leviet left Russia before they were charged in May. Prosecutors announced the sentence in a statement on Tuesday, and it also includes a five-year ban on both journalists from posting stuff online

Both men were earlier declared “foreign agents” — a label with Soviet-era connotations used to stifle dissent.
