Mohamed Salah’s milestone 200th goal for Liverpool, coupled with his 150th in the Premier League, unfolded in dramatic fashion against Crystal Palace. The Egyptian maestro found the back of the net in the 76th minute at Selhurst Park, equalizing for Liverpool after falling behind to a Jean-Philippe Mateta penalty in the second half.
Curtis Jones orchestrated the setup, capitalizing on Cody Gakpo’s cross to provide Salah with the opportunity to calmly slot the ball home, albeit with an unfortunate deflection off Nathaniel Clyne. Harvey Elliott sealed the deal with a second goal in added time.
This achievement propels Salah into an exclusive club, as he becomes only the fifth player in Liverpool’s storied history to reach the 200-goal mark, joining the ranks of Ian Rush, Roger Hunt, Gordon Hodgson, and Billy Liddell.
Notably, Salah’s current season tally stands at 14 goals in all competitions, with 11 of those coming in 16 Premier League appearances. In reaching the 150-goal milestone in the Premier League, he joins a select group of top-flight forwards, including former Liverpool stars Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler, as well as Jermaine Defoe, Frank Lampard, Andy Cole, Wayne Rooney, Alan Shearer, Sergio Aguero, and Thierry Henry.
Salah, alongside the second-leading Premier League goalscorer, Harry Kane, stands out as the only active players with at least 150 goals in the league. Since his arrival from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has been a standout performer under Jurgen Klopp’s management.
The 31-year-old’s impact extends beyond individual achievements, as he played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s triumph in the 2019/20 Premier League season, contributing 19 goals. Additionally, Salah was a key figure in the Reds’ successful 2018-19 Champions League campaign, scoring crucial goals, including a second-minute penalty in the historic 2-0 final victory against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.
Salah’s remarkable goal-scoring prowess has earned him three Premier League Golden Boots, the first of which came in the 2017/18 season when he notched a career-best 32 goals. He followed up with shared honors in the 2018/19 and 2021/22 seasons, securing the accolade with 22 and 23 goals, respectively.
