Some Inspector of Police who are South East origin have Bemoaned what they tagged alleged stagnation and marginalization in the force.
They alleged that they were recruited into the Nigeria Police Force in October to December 2000 yet they have not been promoted
In an interview, the affected inspectors who said they were promoted inspectors on February 19, 2018 and confirmed on May 5, 2020, lamented that their mates from other geo-political zones had been promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASPs) since 2023.
They also alleged that another set of their colleagues who were promoted in 2017 and confirmed in 2019, were due to go to the Promotion Board as their names had been forwarded to Abuja to be upgraded to the ASP rank, while the police authorities abandoned those from the South East who were recruited the same year with them.
“Those of us left behind in the current exercise, but who are due for promotion are asking the offence we committed that made the police authority to abandon us,” one of the policeman said unanimously.
They said it was wrong for them to be running the same date of promotion with their juniors who were recruited in 2001, instead of promoting them alongside their mates who are already ASPs.
“Those of us Police Inspectors who are behind our mates are asking why the promotion discrepancy against the October to December 2000 police recruit of the South-East origin?”
They however begged the Inspector General of Police to direct that those recruited between October and December 2000 in the whole of South East who were promoted Inspectors in 2018, join their mates whose names have already been sent to Abuja for Departmental Selection Board (DSB) for promotion to ASPs.
