The authorities in Senegal has shut down social media and messaging platforms in the country, in response to Thursday’s deadly clashes between protesters and security forces over the sentencing of opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, Truth Live News can confirm.
The country’s interior Minister, Antoine Diome who made this known in his Televised address on Thursday night said that the shutdown was because the internet is the source of the riot that erupt in the country.
“The State of Senegal, in all sovereignty, has decided to temporarily suspend the use of certain digital applications through which calls for violence and hatred are made,” he said.
According to a report by News24 report, Truth Live News learnt that the apps blocked in the country includes Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Tiktok, YouTube and Telegram.
