Popular Nigerian artist Davido has claimed responsibility for helping to launch the global success of Afrobeats music along with his fellow singer Wizkid.
In a recent interview with Brut, the singer of the song “Timeless” made this statement, which caused a great uproar among music fans on social media.
He claimed that before other musicians he referred to as “new cats” joined the movement, him and Wizkid were the pioneer artists who opened the road for Afrobeat music’s global acceptance and appeal.
Davido claims that the foundation he and Wizkid established earlier has benefited Grammy Award-winning musician Burna Boy as well as other new-school artists Rema, Fireboy, Asake, and Mayorkun.
He said;
“Everybody knows that I was one of the first, me and Wizkid to blow up. It feels good also seeing that the news cats coming up; like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Rema, Asake, and Mayorkun.”
