Grammy-award winning Nigerian artiste, Temilade Openiyi better known as Tems has hit a new milestone in her musical career as she become the first female artist to earn one (1) billion streams on music platform, Spotify.
She achieved the first as her collaborative hit with Future and Drake, ‘Wait For U,’ recently hit the 1 billion streams mark on Spotify.
The song, which was released in 2022, samples Tems’ song, ‘Higher’ from her debut extended play, ‘For Broken Ears’ (2020).
The song debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 10, making Tems the first African artist to debut atop the chart.
‘Wait for U’ received two nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards: Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance, winning the latter.
