UYO – Governor Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining the state’s status as Nigeria’s cleanest and advancing its position as a top tourism destination.

While monitoring the February edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Uyo, the Governor expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by citizens and the visible improvements the exercise has yielded.

At Itam Junction flyover, Governor Eno praised the cleanliness of Akwa Ibom people, which he credited for the state’s Cleanliness Performance Index (CPI) award as Nigeria’s cleanest state for six consecutive years. “From what we have seen so far, we want to thank Akwa Ibom people for observing the sanitation and clearing their environment,” he stated.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining this record, asserting, “Akwa Ibom has been declared the cleanest state in this nation up to six times. So we must continue to maintain that status.”

The Governor also commended the artistic decoration at the Itam flyover, executed under the leadership of Anietie Eka and the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), noting that it reflects the state’s rich cultural heritage.

He urged residents to protect these beautification projects from vandalism, stressing, “These designs depict our culture, our people, and who we are. I am only asking that we should maintain it and not allow hoodlums to take over these places.”

At the new Mbiabong Motor Park complex, Governor Eno praised the Uyo Council Chairman for initiating the ultra-modern park to eliminate street loading in certain areas of the city.

Truth Live News gathered that he expressed confidence that transporters and commuters would make good use of the facility.

Governor Eno concluded by encouraging Akwa Ibom residents to adopt a collective positive mindset towards achieving the shared vision of transforming the state into a premier tourism destination.
