A heart wrenching picture of woman affected by ongoing demolition exercises of Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Wednesday has further accentuated the humanitarian displacement happening in the nation’s capital, Truthlive.net can reveal.
Also in other pictures, an overawed unlookers were seen as buldozers from the FCTA authorities urged on by Ikharo Attah, principal functionary of the FCT ministry in the rather insensate demolition spree, continued their work.
The nation’s capital has perhaps the highest number of urban vulnerable population group, UVP.
Though yet to be classified officially, these are group of people attracted by a combination of prospect of better life, displacement by banditry and other social upheavals drift to major cities without benefits of having settled relatives in the place.
They are said to be vulnerable because they are voiceless and have no avenue for redress.
The FCT has been unrelenting in its onslaught against slum dwellings in the FCT which principally affects the UVP.
The FCT officially explains its efforts as clean up exercise to read the vicinity of Mpape of criminal activities.
Attah, the Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to the Minister of FCT, stated that after eight months of pulling down shanties on the continuously busy road, the illegal structures have reappeared on the road corridors, which have turned into a haven for bad characters in the neighborhood.
