Sorrow, Tears As Remains Of Former Council’s Chairman Buried In Calabar.

Late Ambassador Chief (Mrs) Esther Edet Bassey was until her demise the Chairman of Calabar South LGA, Cross River Southern Senatorial District, south south region of Nigeria.

She was elected chairman on the platform of the People Democratic Party PDP, and later defected to All Progressive Congress APC following Governor Ayade’s defection some years ago.

Fondly called the ‘Queen of south’ Late Esther Edet Bassey, 50, was born in 1973, died on 24th of February 2023 in Calabar. Truth Live News Reported.

Earlier before her funeral, a Novelty match was held in her honour by Leopard FC versus Efut Bombers at the U.J Esuene stadium on April 27, 2023.

She was reportedly support the inauguration of the south APC National Youth Caucus with the sum of N150,000 in 2022 in Calabar.

At a funeral service conducted by St. Bernard Catholic Church, Marian Hills, Calabar. Rev. Fr. Christopher Naseri in a homily said Late Mrs. Esther was a leader of the women in the parish and a God-fearing person.

Father Naseri who quoted from the church’s Book of wisdom chapter 4:15 and Job Chapter 1:21 said, “Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

In a bid to immortalize her, the St. Bernard Catholic Church, Marian Hills, Calabar announced that it will name a particular building in the premises in her honor.

According to the parish, she was a supporter of God’s work in all ramifications.

Similarly, her former Vice Chairman who is now the Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Ndabor Robert Hogan said the council will rename “Goldie Road” one of the streets in Calabar south after her.

While showing appreciation to God and the church, all the local government Chairmen in the State including APC party donated N6 million for the completion of the building that will be named after the deceased by the church.

“Mrs. Bassey death was painful and untimely” Governor Ben Ayade said. “She passed on when she was needed the most.

Ayade who was represented by his Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Esu said “I’ ve never seen her mistreat anyone. She lived an upright life and was a trustworthy party man.”

“May God gives her family the fortitude to bear this replaceable loss.” He prayed.

Her remains was later interred at the Calabar Vault and Gardens, a private cemetery and Park in Adiabo, Odukpani LGA.

She was survived by her husband Mr. Peter Bassey, children and a host of relatives to mourn her death.
