South African Luxury goods mogul Johann Rupert has dust Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote to become the continent’s richest man.

The latest rating from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index show that Dangote, who previously held tenaciously to the title, is now in the second rung of the ladder as result to his fortune dropping to $13.4 billion.

Rupert, who controls the world’s largest luxury watchmaker, Cie Financiere Richemont, through a family trust saw his net worth rise to $14.3 billion.

Dangote, heading the Dangote Group, had his net worth plummeted by about $1.69 billion in 2024, no thanks to Nigeria’s economic downturn, which had a negative impact on his business.

In Bloomberg’s ranking, South African billionaire Nicky Oppenheimer occupies the third position with a net worth of $11.3 billion.

Following him is Egyptian businessman Nassef Sawiris with $9.37 billion, while South African investor Natie Kirsh is fifth with $9.14 billion.
