Nigeria Sports Development Minister Sen John Owan Enoh, has said that Sports Ministry is open to collaborating with corporate organisations to develop grassroots sports and encourage greater private-sector involvement.
Enoh made the call in Lagos during a monthly cycling race organised by the Pitstop Lagos Criterium.
He said the ministry will not relent in giving the needed government support and encouragement.
“On Sunday, I attended the Pitstop Lagos Criterium, a monthly cycling race organized by the Pitstop community to promote grassroots cycling,” Enoh said. “I was impressed by the community and the sponsors of the event.”
“Sponsors and Pitstop community, together we achieve more. Tens of laps on the Dolphin loop are commendable,” said the Minister.
He said his presence at the event speaks to that truth.
He told them of the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” for Sports Development in the country.
He explained that by paying apt attention to the various sports and their Federations for proper development from the grassroots through to advanced levels is a priority.
“It was very revealing what’s going on in our various sports communities, all targeted at growing grassroots sports,” he stated.
He Congratulated Isaac Gana and all the contestants at the event.
Speaking earlier, a senior Pitstop Mentor, Mr Adebisi Adebutu, recalled that the consistency of the event for the past four years has attracted major corporate sponsors such as Access Bank, Craneburg Construction and Ìlúbìrìn Lagos Island.
“It has become the fastest growing sport in the country, attracting a wide demography from across professional and recreational cyclists,” he said.
Fifty participants featured at the monthly Pitstop Lagos Criterium with three teams involved. Team Access, Craneburg and Team Ilubirin .
The competitors did 23 laps on the Dolphin loop, which saw Isaac Gana emerged 1st position and winner of the grand prize of one million naira while Team Access won the best team.
