The Join Action Committee (JAC) of Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of educational and associated institutions, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the National Association of Academic Technologist (NAAT) Akwa Ibom State University have reached a resolution to embark on indefinite strike action.
In a resolution jointly signed by SSANU and JAC chairman Comrade Emmanuel Okon, NAAT chairman Comrade Ndipmong Udoakpan and Chairman NASU and JAC secretary comrade Mefiok Umanah resolved as follow.
“That whereas all efforts of JAC geared towards ensuring that all issues in contention are resolved amicably which Include letters written to the State Governor and the Vice Chancellor, meeting with the University management, and meeting with some officials of the ministry of education have not yielded fruitful result, we therefore resolved to embark on indefinite strike action which shall be a Sit-At-Home action effective from Thursday January 11, 2024.”
Congress mandates the leadership of JAC to on it behalf, be open to and avail themselves to meeting with relevant authorities of government with a view to negotiating and ensuring that all issues are resolved in the best interest of members and the University community at large and revert to Congress for affirmation before any memorandum of understanding or action is conclusively reached and/or sign.”
The resolution made it clear that Congress had further resolved that the industrial action shall be total and comprehensive.
