In a significant turn of events, the Supreme Court has overturned the conviction of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, as well as his seven-year prison sentence for charges related to fraud and money laundering.
The apex court has further directed that Senator Nwaoboshi be promptly released from his current confinement in Ikoyi prisons, located in Lagos.
Justice Emmanuel Agim, delivering the leading judgment, asserted that both Nwaoboshi and the two implicated companies were unjustly and maliciously prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court determined that no legal offenses had been committed and that the criminal trial had needlessly targeted them in connection with a civil transaction.
