Participants at the finals of the Calabar Table Tennis Challenge made away with gift items including money in envelopes.
No figure was put on the amount of cash.
The two days sporting competition with consolation prizes for runners up held at the U.J Esuene Stadium was organized by the Cross River State Table Tennis Association (CRSTTA) in collaboration with the Cross River State Sports Commission (CRSSC) in Calabar.
The final lists of the winners obtained by the Truth Live News weekend, showed four categories of winners, as the Elite Men Single finals featured Bright Joel, Akabom Ekpo and Victor Sunday.
Hope Udoka and Vivian Ekpenyong made the finals of the Elite Women Single as Esther Ekok, Eta Ogabu and Precious Edem occupied Cadet Girls final list.
While the Cadet Singles winners are Daniel Ekok, Samuel Eze and Victor Daniel, the Boys Singles has Victor Edem, Jim Victory and Sylvanus Irukwu respectively.
At the ceremony held to honour the winners, the Chairman, Cross River State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Gill Nsa, shortly before presenting the gifts said, he is impressed by the performance of the young upcoming stars as well as that of the adults.
Nsa, appealed to the Cross River State Government and Table Tennis’ Enthusiasts across the 18 LGAs including Banks and private companies to get involve in the business of sports adding that apart from serving as a tool for unity, sports also has its socio-economic advantage.
“I believe National Policy on Sports is a window through which different companies can come in and sponsor sports. Don’t get discouraged if you call on Government and it doesn’t come immediately.”He told the organizers to continue to avail private companies of their ideas in terms of sports development in the state.
