TCN Commissions 300mva Power Transformer In Benin To Enhance Electricity Supply

Lucky Obukohwo, Reporting

The Transmission Company Nigeria (TCN), said it has commissioned a new 300 megavolt-amperes, 330/132/33 kilowatt-hour power transformer in its Benin Transmission Substation to enhance its electricity supply.

The Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement made available to Journalists.

According to her, the facility was commissioned last Thursday.

She said the transformers are a part of the ongoing TCN and World Bank projects targeted at further increasing transmission capacity nationwide.

Mbah noted that the transformer is one of the two new 300MVA capacity power transformers earlier delivered to the substation.

“TCN will commence the immediate installation of the second transformer, to further increase redundancy in the substation.

“The transformers are a part of the ongoing TCN/World Bank projects aimed at further increasing transmission capacity, nationwide,” the statement reads.

Recall that in 2018, the World Bank approved a $486 million credit to support the rehabilitation and upgrade of Nigeria’s electricity transmission substations and lines.

According to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s electricity generation increased to 4,800 megawatts in May from 4,200MW owing to the completion of the Zungeru hydropower plant.

Adelabu said the government is targeting 6000MW by the end of December 2024.
