Unknown gunmen have abducted Prof. Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics at Abia State University.
The incident occurred when the kidnappers, numbering more than three, intercepted him at a fuel station. They forcibly took him into a Lexus SUV and seized his wife’s ATM.
The police confirmed the abduction, stating that the command received the report on Friday around 9:30 pm.
According to the statement by Police Public Relations Officer Maureen Chinaka, the incident took place at approximately 7 pm when Emezue and his wife were ambushed while purchasing fuel at a petrol station in Umuekwu Amachara, Umuahia South Local Government Area.
The police assured the public that resources and assets, including intelligence and technical aid, are being deployed to unravel the crime and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.
They urged citizens to remain calm, continue their legitimate activities, and stay vigilant while cooperating with the authorities by providing any useful information that could aid the investigation and enhance overall security in the state.
“Furthermore, we seek the cooperation of the public, especially by way of providing any useful information that could be helpful in these particular circumstances, and in attaining enhanced security in the state, generally,” the Command said
