Three suspects have been apprehended and dragged to court for allegedly lynching to death two welders, Osamudiamen Ehigie and Nosa Aghimiewho were mistaken for thieves, in Edo State.

Truth Live News Media reports that the incident happened in Amagba, a suburban community in Benin City, Oredo Local Government Area of the state.

The accused, Frank Abolo (37), Samson Odewole (22), and Happy Ohio (25), along with two others still at large, reportedly carried out the act of jungle justice on Osamudiamen Ehigie and Nosa Aghimie.

The two welders were said to have been returning from a project site in the community at around 6 pm on that fateful day.

The victims, who had been mistaken for armed robbers, were said to have encountered gunmen who had just completed a robbery in the area.

Upon seeing the welders, the gunmen allegedly gave chase, and in the ensuing chaos, the victims ran into a nearby house to hide.

It was further reported that local residents, also believing the welders were the robbers, apprehended them and beat them to death.

Preliminary investigations by the police have cleared the two artisans of any involvement in the robbery.

Additionally, the owner of the worksite where they had been employed confirmed their innocence.

State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Joel Yamu, confirmed the incident, stating that the three arrested suspects have been charged with murder.

“The Command is aware of the tragic death of the two young men.

“An investigation has been launched, and three suspects have been arrested, with two others still at large. Those arrested have been charged to court for prosecution,” Yamu said.
