President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Zaccheus Adedeji as the new acting executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Tinubu has also instructed Muhammad Nami, the current FIRS chairman, to commence a three-month pre-retirement leave, as stipulated by Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, with immediate effect.

This leave period will lead to Nami’s eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023, according to a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity.

The statement said, “Hon. Zaccheus Adedeji is hereby appointed in an acting capacity for a 90-day interim period, followed by his subsequent confirmation as the substantive Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, with an initial term of four years.”

Zaccheus Adedeji, who holds a first-class degree in accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University, previously served as the special adviser to President Tinubu on revenue matters.

Prior to his recent appointment, he also held the position of Commissioner of Finance during the administration of the late Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi.
