Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has appointed Hadiza Bala Usman, to head Result Delivery Unit, in a performance bond between all ministers and ministries.
During the 2023 Cabinet Retreat held in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized his commitment to improving the nation’s fortunes for the benefit of all Nigerians, regardless of their political, ethnic, or other affiliations. He urged his cabinet ministers to fulfill their mandates as the only way to retain their positions.
Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, recently outlined a strict approach to ministerial performance under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Each minister is required to sign a performance bond with President Tinubu, and failure to meet set standards may result in dismissal.
President Tinubu made it clear that he views Nigeria as one family, emphasizing unity and a shared goal of a greater Nigeria. This retreat occurred ten weeks after the initial swearing-in of 45 ministers into the Federal Executive Council in August 2023.
To monitor ministerial performance, Hadiza Bala Usman’s Result Delivery Unit, under the guidance of Tinubu’s administration, will focus on eight priority areas. These areas include Food Security, Ending Poverty, Economic Growth and Job Creation, and Access to Capital.
Furthermore, Usman revealed that the performance bond will contain key performance indicators (KPIs) to be reviewed quarterly. It will also incorporate a consequence management framework for appointees who fail to meet expectations. Her office’s role is to coordinate activities across various government ministries, departments, and agencies.
The Result Delivery Unit aims to assess ministers’ performance starting in January 2024, conducting quarterly evaluations leading to an annual scorecard. Additionally, a cabinet retreat was held where the performance bond was signed by each ministry.
