NIGERIA, DELTA – President Bola Tinubu has officially flagged off the construction of the 17.6-kilometer access road to the Second Niger Bridge (Phase 2), a critical infrastructure project designed to improve connectivity between the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria.
Truth Live News gathered that Mr President, who was ably represented by the Delta State governor Sheriff Oborevwori, performed the ceremonial launch at Oko, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, marking a significant milestone in his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The newly launched road project will traverse Issele-Azagba, Okpanam, Ibusa, Asaba, Okwe, and Oko-Amakun before linking the Second Niger Bridge to Anambra State.
The initiative aims to address longstanding traffic congestion on the Asaba-Benin Road, particularly during peak hours and festive periods, when travelers experience severe delays.
President Tinubu emphasized that the project’s primary objectives are to:
Ease traffic bottlenecks, particularly for motorists heading to and from the South-East,
Enhance trade and economic activities by providing a seamless transport corridor,
Promote regional integration and facilitate movement between key commercial hubs,
Attract investment and economic development, particularly in the logistics and transport sectors.
“This bridge is a landmark infrastructural project, given its significance in linking the Asaba-Benin Expressway with the Anambra-Enugu Expressway.
The expected benefits include economic growth, job creation, and enhanced regional connectivity,” Tinubu stated.
The President further commended the Delta and Anambra State Governments for their cooperation and urged them to finalize compensation payments to affected property owners to ensure timely project completion.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, stressing that the administration is focused on delivering critical projects that will stimulate economic growth across the country.
Umahi disclosed that the Anambra axis of the Second Niger Bridge access road would be flagged off on Tuesday, completing both ends of the linkage. He emphasized that the government expects the contractor to adhere strictly to project timelines.
Security along the Second Niger Bridge corridor has also been bolstered with a CCTV surveillance network, connected to monitoring centers in both Delta and Anambra State Government Houses, ensuring safety for motorists and residents.
The event drew traditional rulers from benefiting communities—including Asaba, Oko-Amakun, Okwe, Ibusa, Okpanam, and Issele-Azagba—who pledged their full support for the project’s successful execution.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Azinge, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for prioritizing the project.
“This road will reduce travel time, facilitate easier movement of goods, and boost commerce in our communities. We appreciate the Federal Government’s commitment to this much-needed infrastructure,” he said.
The construction firm handling the Delta section of the project, CCECC Limited, has assured the government of timely execution.
“We are committed to delivering this project on schedule, ensuring that it meets the highest engineering standards,” said Eric Xhen, South-South Engineer in Charge.
With the Second Niger Bridge already operational, the completion of this access road will unlock its full economic potential, easing movement for travelers and businesses alike.
As the Tinubu administration continues to prioritize road, rail, and transport infrastructure, this project underscores its commitment to ensuring nationwide development and regional cohesion.
