President Bola Tinubu announced that former President Muhammadu Buhari can no longer fulfill his promise to retire to Niger due to border closure. This revelation occurred during the unveiling of two books that delve into Buhari’s presidency from 2015 to 2023. Notable figures, including General Yakubu Gowon, the senate president and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, were present at the event.

Truth Live News gathered that Tinubu acknowledged the challenging eight years of Buhari’s administration, highlighting the economic recession and the Boko Haram insurgency. He expressed gratitude to Femi Adesina, the author of the memoirs, for providing insights into Buhari’s leadership.

The border closure, a consequence of the July 26, 2023, coup in Niger, was imposed by Nigeria as a measure to pressure the military junta for the restoration of democracy. Despite sanctions, the regime in Niger resisted, and the closure prevents Buhari from relocating there.

Tinubu pledged to continue the work started by Buhari, addressing unresolved challenges and focusing on economic development. He emphasized the commitment to eradicate remnants of Boko Haram, Ansaru, banditry, and kidnapping, ensuring the security of the nation.

The book launch not only honored Buhari but also provided a platform to reflect on the past administration, setting the tone for Tinubu’s commitment to building on the legacy left by his predecessor.

This was the ex president’s first appearance in Abuja since he left office.
