Edo 2024 : Tragedy Hits APC As Campaign Convoy Kill Five In Fatal Accident
Toba Owojaiye reporting
Benin City, Edo State
In a heartbreaking incident leading up to the Edo State 2024 governorship election, a fatal accident involving the convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, has claimed the lives of five people, including Emmanuel Edionwe, on Warrake Road near Uzebba in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Truth Live News gathered that the victims, who were returning from a burial ceremony, were crushed to death by Okpebholo’s convoy while attempting to negotiate a sharp bend on the road. Witnesses cited reckless driving as the cause of the tragic accident.
Four of the deceased victims were taken to the Edo State University Uzaurie Mortuary, while Emmanuel Edionwe passed away at the Irrua Specialist Hospital where he was transferred for specialized care. One of the victims is currently in critical condition at the hospital, fighting for his life.
The families of the deceased are in deep shock and sorrow, devastated by the sudden loss of their loved ones. Despite the tragic incident, there has been no official statement or condolences from the APC campaign council, leaving the affected families without closure and support during this difficult time.
The community mourns the loss of these young lives and demands accountability and justice for the victims of this terrible accident. The absence of acknowledgment from the APC has added to the pain and suffering of the bereaved families, who deserve compassion and recognition in their time of grief.
Many pundits have related this to a recent call by the Oba of Benin for cleansing. The APC has been from one travail to another since the election and many have wondered if it is a punishment from the gods.
An eyewitness noted that Okpebholo sneaked to check on the victims in the hospital they had been rushed to in Auchi after the accident but that it was disheartening that the APC campaign council has refused to acknowledge the incident or even commiserate with the affected families.
“We feel really bad that the APC has not said anything about the accident. It is insensitive. No one who suffers such a loss should be left without closure,” he said, crying profusely..
