US President Donald Trump is increasingly frustrated with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky amid Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine.
Trump wants a permanent ceasefire in Ukraine after Putin announced a three-day pause in fighting in May.
The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, stated that Trump remains optimistic about striking a deal but is also being realistic.
Leavitt added that both leaders need to come to the table to negotiate their way out of the conflict.
“According to Leavitt, Trump wants a permanent ceasefire in Ukraine after Putin announced a three-day pause in fighting in May.
“He thinks that he is increasingly frustrated with the leaders of both countries.
“He wants to see a permanent ceasefire. I understand Vladimir Putin this morning offered a temporary ceasefire.”
She added, “The president has made it clear he wants to see a permanent ceasefire first to stop the killing, stop the bloodshed and while he remains optimistic he can strike a deal, he is also being realistic as well and both leaders need to come to the table to negotiate their way out of this,” she said.
Putin declared a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Second World War.
