President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Pam Bondi, the former top lawyer of Florida, as the United States Attorney General.
This nomination comes after Matt Gaetz, the former Florida representative, withdrew his nomination for the position due to allegations surrounding his involvement in drug-fueled sex parties and payments to underage women.
Gaetz had announced his withdrawal on Thursday, stating that his confirmation was becoming a distraction to the Trump/Vance transition.
Trump’s DOJ is expected to be in place and ready on Day 1, and Gaetz’s withdrawal paved the way for Bondi’s nomination.
Bondi, a well-known figure in Florida politics, served as the state’s Attorney General from 2011 to 2019.
Her nomination is seen as a strategic move by Trump to fill the position with an experienced and reputable individual.
The development comes as Trump continues to assemble his cabinet ahead of his inauguration on January 20, 2025.
Other notable nominations include Marco Rubio for Secretary of State and Steven Cheung as White House communications director.
