In a disturbing turn of events, Truth Live News reporters faced aggression and intimidation while covering the Edo APC gubernatorial primaries election collation process which held in Lushville hotel, Benin City. The incident highlights the dangers journalists often encounter while performing their duties, especially in politically charged environments.
During the collation process, Truth Live News correspondents and other journalists from other news houses were targeted by unidentified individuals suspected to be thugs from an aggrieved candidate. The reporters were manhandled, and their camera equipment were destroyed, impeding their ability to document the events unfolding at the collation centre.
The attackers employed intimidation tactics to deter the reporters from documenting the proceedings at the collation centre. This included verbal threats and the use of force. They accused journalists of carrying false reports on the just concluded election, because their candidate was not declared winner.
They destroyed chairs, tables, media camera and equipment.
As at time of press, no casualty has been recorded as all the officials scampered for their safety.
