Two lifeless bodies have been recoverd from the Ikpoba River at Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
A source who preferred anonymity told Truth Live News that the incident happened on Sunday night.
He said the vehicle was heading from the Ring Road axis and was on a top speed.
The source added that the driver lost control and hit the pavement before it plunged into the Ikpoba River.
The accident however led to a heavy traffic jam in the area as passengers were left stranded for hours while the officers and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps battled to bring the traffic situation under control.
Confirming the incident, the Road Safety Corps Public Education Officer, Oreva Ukoh, said the occupants of the vehicle were coming from a party on Sunday night.
She said the driver of the vehicle possibly was on a high speed and could not control the vehicle.
Ukoh said because the incident happened at night, before help could come the way of the occupants of the vehicle,two persons were already drowned.
“It is two persons that were actually involved, one male adult and a female adult. They died in the river
“It is obvious that the man was on a high speed because that night, other road users were not there, so he has the whole road to himself.
“Is even still amazement me how he landed in the river.
“However, it is a result of speeding and some were dressed as someone coming from the party” Ukoh said.
