Uganda Opposition Leader Rough Handled By Police

Toba Owojaiye reporting

Uganda’s prominent opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has reported that their leader, Bobi Wine, faced detention upon his return to the country following an international trip.

Initially, it was alleged that he was apprehended by government agents immediately after landing at Entebbe International Airport. Disturbing images accompanying the news depicted two individuals forcefully restraining him on the airport tarmac.

In contrast, the police countered these claims later in the day. They asserted that Bobi Wine had not been detained but, instead, had been escorted by their security team to his residence in Magere, where he arrived at approximately 11:20 am. The police dismissed rumors of his arrest as propaganda and assured that he was in the company of his family and friends.

However, photographs from the incident seem to suggest a different narrative, as they show signs of a scuffle involving his home security guard and raise questions about whether he was indeed taken against his will.

Bobi Wine has long been a formidable political challenger to Uganda’s incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, and his return to the country under these circumstances has sparked significant controversy and speculation about his treatment.

This incident highlights the ongoing political tensions in Uganda and the complex dynamics surrounding opposition figures in the country.
