The gubernatorial candidate of the People Redemption Party (PRP) in Cross River State, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, has escaped from kidnappers while two persons were killed and others kidnapped in the process.

The incident occurred at about 5p.m on Friday at Betem community in Biase Local Government Area in Central Senatorial District of the state.

However, three out of four of his kidnapped entourage were reported to have gained freedom after hours in captivity.

Recall that earlier on Saturday February 4, Truth Live News reported that bandits killed two in Biase LGA and kidnapped several others.

A statement by the guber candidate’s media team revealed that the two men earlier reported that were shot dead by the bandits were Usani’s escort.

In addition, the statement said the driver was shot in the foot and the car riddled with bullets. The bandits were said to have stolen some of their belongings such as phones and wallets, before running into the forest.

“Four out of eight of his entourage were adopted by the gunmen, the driver and others are receiving medical attention,” the report said.

The attack followed soon after Usani left an event organized by Human Rights Commission at Axari Hotel in Calabar, the capital city of the state.

Pastor Usani is the former Minister of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, and pastor in the Liberty Gospel Church in Cross River State, South South Nigeria.
