In another recent development in the ongoing leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, security details of the impeached Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, have been restored, while those of his successor, Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, have been withdrawn.

Truth Live News gathered that Obasa, who was impeached on January 13, 2025, is set to reclaim his position as Speaker following high-level political interventions.

Meranda, Obasa’s former deputy, made history as the first female Speaker of the House after his removal. However, her tenure appears to be coming to an abrupt end after top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stepped in to resolve the Assembly crisis.

Key political figures, including former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Osun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, ex-Commissioner for Justice Dr. Muiz Banire, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and some lawmakers, met over the weekend. Their deliberations reportedly sealed Meranda’s fate, as she was urged to vacate the seat.

Though she has yet to officially resign, sources indicate that Obasa’s return is imminent, following resolutions reached by the party leaders, which largely favored his reinstatement.

With the withdrawal of Meranda’s security details and the restoration of Obasa’s, political watchers believe it is only a matter of time before the Lagos Assembly formally announces his comeback.
