President-elect Donald Trump has announced the formation of a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and has appointed tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and conservative activist Vivek Ramaswamy to lead this ambitious initiative.
Trump stated that this department’s purpose will be to overhaul federal bureaucracy, reduce regulatory excess, and streamline government spending. “Together, these two visionary Americans will set the course for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, cut down on excess regulations, eliminate wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies,” Trump said in a formal statement on Tuesday, highlighting his commitment to the “Save America Movement.”
Trump compared the department’s potential impact to the groundbreaking Manhattan Project, calling it “the Manhattan Project of our time.” He explained that DOGE would work in collaboration with the White House and the Office of Management & Budget to drive large-scale reforms that establish a more innovative, entrepreneurial approach to government—a concept Trump believes is unprecedented. “Republican politicians have long dreamed of the goals DOGE is set to achieve,” he noted, emphasizing the department’s role in creating transformative changes across federal agencies.
Elon Musk responded enthusiastically to his appointment, pledging to keep the department’s actions transparent. “Every action taken by the Department of Government Efficiency will be shared online for full transparency.
If the public feels we are cutting something important or not targeting wasteful spending, they can speak up,” Musk wrote. He added that DOGE will feature a public leaderboard highlighting “the most outrageously wasteful uses of taxpayer dollars,” noting that the process would be both enlightening and, at times, entertaining. “Either we get government efficient, or America risks financial disaster. That’s the reality,” Musk added in another statement Tuesday.
