HEALTH – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has described the newly commissioned Patience Umo Eno Antenatal Complex at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) as the perfect Valentine’s gift for him and his family.
The facility, named in honor of his late wife, aligns with her passion for maternal health and reflects her commitment to societal development through her pet project, The Golden Initiative for All (GIFA).
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Eno emphasized his administration’s dedication to reducing infant mortality and improving maternal healthcare.
In a social media post, Chief Press Secretary Ekerette Udoh said he outlined plans to reposition the Specialist Hospital in the state to promote medical tourism, establish a medical village, and build a mother-and-child hospital with accompanying doctors’ quarters.

Acknowledging that UUTH is a federal institution but primarily serves Akwa Ibom indigenes, he announced a N210 million donation—N200 million for medical services and N10 million for health insurance for indigent patients.
The Governor commended Prof. Emem Bassey, UUTH’s Chief Medical Director (CMD) and former State Commissioner for Health, for his leadership and initiatives at the hospital.
He assured continuous government collaboration with UUTH and other stakeholders to fulfill the ARISE Agenda, which focuses on medical sector development.
Expressing his gratitude, Governor Eno thanked the hospital for honoring his late wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, recognizing her legacy as a mother, wife, pastor, and former First Lady dedicated to the welfare of the less privileged.
Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, also expressed appreciation, highlighting that the hospital’s initiative aligns with GIFA’s focus on maternal healthcare.
In his remarks, Prof. Bassey praised the Governor’s contributions to the hospital and commitment to transforming healthcare in the state.
He detailed the antenatal complex’s facilities, which include a furnished ward, private rooms, consulting rooms, call rooms, offices, a mini laboratory, a pharmacy, a medical records unit, and a family planning unit.
