The media team associated with the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, has once again fallen victim to an attack, this time orchestrated by the security personnel linked to the State Governor’s Office.
This incident occurred during the ongoing 60th-anniversary celebration of the Midwest Referendum at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin.
While diligently performing their duties, the Deputy Governor’s media crew found themselves singled out by Mr. Andrew Okungbowa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, and Ms. Osarumwense Margaret Ojo, the Public Relations Officer of the Governor’s Office. Subsequently, the Governor’s security personnel physically forced them out of the venue.
Despite the Deputy Governor’s efforts to allow his team to stay, the security personnel cited “instructions from above” as their reason for ejecting them. Faced with this situation, Shaibu made the decision to exit the event, refusing to be part of an occasion where his media crew was barred.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the Deputy Governor has experienced such an attack and public humiliation at the hands of the Governor’s security personnel. Similar mistreatment occurred just the previous day during the 32nd-anniversary celebration of the creation of Edo State, which garnered widespread public condemnation.
