On Saturday night, January 14, 2023, R’Bonney Gabriel was crowned the winner of Miss Universe 2022 at the 71st edition of the world’s most important beauty pageant.
Although, this edition was held in 2023, this pageant corresponds to the 2022 edition which was earlier postponed so it does not clash with the 2022 FIFA World Cup, that was held in Qatar.
This edition of the Miss Universe pageant was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
Miss Gabriel replaced Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu, winner of the contest in 2021. Miss Venezuela Amanda Dudamel and Miss Dominican Republic Andreina Martinez were first and second runner-up, respectively.
The new Miss Universe will be the face of a new direction for the organization, which now seeks to highlight more important concepts over empty beauty, such as gender equality and women’s rights. The new administration points out that it is competition “made by women, for women.”
The three winners will move to Thailand, where the world headquarters of the contest are now located and will have to dedicate a year to the organization.
