A shocking incident has sparked outrage in Ifitedunu, Anambra State, after a Catholic priest allegedly flogged a 50-year-old widow and grandmother in her classroom during school hours.
Reverend Fr. Jude Muokwe, a priest of the Roman Catholic Church, Awka Diocese, and overseer of Angel’s Primary School, Ifitedunu, is accused of physically assaulting Mrs. Ikeorah Maureen, a Primary 6 teacher, for daring to question the deduction of lesson fees.
Eyewitnesses claim that on February 12, 2025, Fr. Muokwe stormed into the classroom, accused the teacher of instigating rebellion among staff, and proceeded to flog and slap her in front of pupils.
The reason? Mrs. Ikeorah reportedly challenged the priest over his alleged failure to honor a contract agreement regarding lesson fees collected from parents. Some sources suggest that teachers had expected a certain percentage, but when the funds didn’t reflect as agreed, she raised concerns—only to be met with violence instead of answers.
In a tearful video making rounds online, Mrs. Ikeorah displays bruises on her body while recounting her ordeal:
“He came and started flogging me and slapping me. He claimed I called the teachers for a meeting. I did not call any meeting. See my face, see my back, see my legs.”
