Popular activist Mahdi Shehu has alleged that Katsina state has since its creation, never witness a full blown corruption like what is visible today under the incumbent Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s leadership.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV which was duly monitored by Truthlive.net, Mr Mahdi emphasized that corruption has never been much pronounced in Katsina state like it is now, and concerned anti-graft agencies like the EFCC are turning blind eyes to it.

Mahdi said:

“It has never happened, let me give you this random. I am talking to you now, over sixteen permanent Secretaries who had served their legitimate 35 years in service, who had retired and have collected their pensions and gratitude long ago, are suddenly been brought back to public service as permanent secretaries. Thus, collecting a monthly salary, pensions and gratitude.

“Why are they back? Is because they have been participants in the past looting and being out of the system will not be safe for current manager of the Katsina state economy.

“Secondly they are also back because they have the Secretary to the state government and the Governor either as blood relations, personal friends or partners in crime. Therefore, keeping them longer outside the step of government will not be safe for them, and giving the governor and the SSG sleepless night.

“Number two, there is a cashier called Masa’ud. He was a cashier in the government house for six years. During his reign as the cashier, he was the closest person to the SSG. By the last count, they have withdrawn cash, within the period of five years, over N40 billion in cash with Masa’ud’s name appearing at every cash collection in stretches of N10 million, over the last five years. Therefore, keeping Masa’ud at a distance will not be safe for them. They therefore, transferred Masa’ud to another department in the governor’s office under the power generation project”.
