Victoria Island, Lagos
In a widely circulated viral video, popular comedian Mr Macaroni appeared to snub Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu at Tony Elumelu’s exclusive all-white party. The event, hosted by business magnate Tony Elumelu, attracted numerous A-listers from various sectors.
The video captured Mr Macaroni, amidst the crowd, opted not to greet Governor Sanwo-olu upon his arrival at the party. While the governor and Tony Elumelu strolled together, Mr Macaroni exchanged pleasantries with the businessman but conspicuously refrained from acknowledging the presence of the state leader.
Truth Live News reports that Governor Sanwo-olu, evidently aware of the snub, took the initiative to inquire about the comedian’s decision not to greet him. In response, Mr Macaroni greeted the politician, executing a slight bow accompanied by a handshake. The incident, caught on camera, has generated buzz and speculation, raising questions about the dynamics between public figures in the Nigerian social scene.
The tension between them may be traceable to Mr Macaroni’s vocal support for Peter Obi, an avast presidential candidate and also the rough handling he received during the End SARS crisis in 2020.
While pundits say the Yoruba culture frowns at a young man snubbing an elder or his governor in public for whatever reason.
