The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN has disassociated itself from the bishops who were present at the unveiling of Bola Tinubu’s running mate, Kashim Shettima.
While describing the situation, the CAN Vice President (19 states and Abuja) and it’s chairman in Kaduna state, Rev Joseph John Hayab, said it is very low and distasteful for the All Progressive Congress APC presidential candidate and the party in general, to adorn street urchins in revered clerical garments.
In an interview with journalists in Abuja, Hayab noted that “Bola Tinubu is free to hire mechanics and other artisans and see clerical garments for them”. However, the act has only strengthened the opinion Nigerians already have that his candidacy and choice of running mate, is a political failure on arrival.
He further warned concerned Nigerians to beware as the people clad in clerical garments are not in anyway associated with CAN but only a decoy put together by the party to fool Nigerians.
“The people we saw at the unveiling of Shettima, paraded as Bishops are people who did not have enough time to learn how to wear Bishop garments. Take a closer look at their photo and you will see another Nollywood movie.”
He added that the act will certainly not change the need for fairness and justice.
