Toba Owojaiye Reporting
Port harcourt, Rivers State
Nyesom Wike, the F.C.T Minister, highlighted his commitment to principles during a recent book launch in Port Harcourt. Formally invited by the chief judge to the legal year event, Wike emphasized his refusal to conform to opinions dismissing Opobo as a proper Ijaw community.
This determination, he asserted, played a pivotal role in Governor Sim Fubara’s current position, as he resisted pressures that would have steered him in a different direction.
Wike reflected on the irony of those now shouting support for Fubara during his election, noting their absence when it mattered most. This candid observation underscores the political landscape’s fickle nature.
At the same event, Governor Fubara unequivocally acknowledged Wike as his mentor, dispelling recent tensions that threatened to engulf the state. The governor’s public declaration of Wike as his “oga” serves as a testament to their enduring alliance, putting to rest any lingering discord.
In essence, Wike’s address at the book presentation not only emphasized his unwavering stand but also shed light on the political dynamics that paved the way for Fubara’s governorship. The event acted as a platform to quell recent tensions, reinforcing the strength of the bond between Wike and Fubara despite external pressures.
