WHO Confirms Sudan Virus Disease Outbreak in Uganda

The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed an outbreak of Sudan virus disease in Uganda, a deadly disease part of the Ebola virus family.

The outbreak was declared after a nurse in Kampala died from the disease, which is transmitted through contact with bodily fluids and tissue.

According to WHO, 45 contacts, including health workers and family members, are under close monitoring.

The organization has allocated $1 million from its Contingency Fund for emergencies to support Uganda’s health authorities in containing the outbreak.

WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, emphasized the importance of swift action, saying Uganda’s expertise in responding to public health emergencies will be crucial in ending the outbreak effectively.
