In a strategic move aimed at bolstering the administrative machinery of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the Honorable Minister of the FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has appointed Dr. Udo Samuel Atang as the Senior Special Assistant on Administration.
In a statement made available to Truth Live News, Dr. Atang, a highly respected administrator, brings to this new role over three decades of distinguished service in public administration. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Head of Service of the FCTA, a position he held with remarkable success. His wealth of experience, which spans governance and administration, makes him an ideal choice to support the FCT Minister in driving key reforms and ensuring efficient governance.
Born on March 27, 1964, in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Atang earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Calabar in 1987. His journey into public service began in 1989 with the defunct Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory. Over the next 35 years, Dr. Atang worked his way up the ranks, holding numerous senior administrative positions. His expertise was recognized when he became the pioneer Head of Service of the FCTA in March 2024.
In a remarkable testament to his capabilities, Dr. Atang’s tenure as Head of Service was extended for six months by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu upon his reaching the retirement age of 60 in March 2024. This extension allowed him to continue driving the significant reforms and initiatives that have shaped the FCTA’s operations.
Now, as Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Dr. Atang is set to take on an even more pivotal role. As a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, he will work closely with Minister Wike to streamline administrative functions, ensure seamless coordination across departments, and provide strategic advisory support to advance the Minister’s vision for the FCT.
Dr. Atang’s appointment, which takes effect immediately, underscores the FCTA’s commitment to enhancing its administrative efficiency and delivering quality governance for the residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
This appointment is expected to strengthen the administrative backbone of the FCT, with Dr. Atang’s expertise playing a critical role in the continuous improvement of government operations.
