The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, continues to solidify his reputation as a transformational leader, commissioning the 5km Gaba-Tokulo road in Bwari Area Council on Friday, January 24, 2025.
This achievement reaffirms the administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural development, a core pillar of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In his address, duly monitored by Truth Live News, Minister Wike emphasized the importance of inclusive development across all six Area Councils of the FCT, stating, “We are committed to fulfilling President Tinubu’s directive to construct one road in each of the councils. These projects are a testament to our dedication to improving the lives of residents.”
The newly completed Gaba-Tokulo road, built at a cost of N7 billion, is part of a broader investment totaling N62.2 billion in Bwari. This includes the complete rehabilitation of roads from Dutse to Bwari, and key road networks in Ushafa and the War College area.
“From Dutse to this area in Bwari, the total road rehabilitation has cost us not less than N27 billion. Additionally, the roads in Ushafa and the War College area alone accounted for N28 billion,” Wike detailed.
Beyond road infrastructure, the FCT Administration has directed significant resources toward education. Minister Wike highlighted the construction and renovation of Government Secondary Schools in Dutse, Bwari, Ushafa, Deidei, Kubwa, and Jibi, amounting to N27 billion. He assured the public that these initiatives reflect nearly N100 billion invested in Bwari Area Council alone.
Addressing security concerns, Wike announced the construction of two new police divisions in Igou and Ushafa, with completion scheduled for May 2025. These measures aim to enhance safety and provide a secure environment for residents.
Responding to calls from Hon. John Gabaya, Chairman of Bwari Area Council, for an extension of the Gaba-Tokulo road to Kawu near the Kaduna State boundary and the creation of an alternative route to Kubwa, Minister Wike pledged to commence the Tokulo-Kawu road project in alignment with the 2025 rural road initiative.
The Minister commended construction giant Setraco for its exceptional work, directing the company to extend the project’s scope by adding streetlights, further enhancing safety and accessibility.
Hon. John Gabaya lauded Minister Wike’s exceptional leadership, describing him as “a symbol of the Renewed Hope Agenda.” He recounted the challenges posed by the previously deplorable road conditions and the transformational impact of the completed project on the lives of residents.
Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, FCT Minister of State, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that these projects align with President Tinubu’s vision of fostering connectivity, driving economic growth, and improving the lives of Nigerians.
The event also included a moment of silence in honor of the late Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni (Rtd), a former FCT Minister, whose contributions to the development of the territory remain indelible.
Director of Press for the FCT Minister’s Office, Anthony Ogunleye, hailed the project as evidence of the administration’s focus on impactful governance.
Under Minister Wike’s leadership, the FCT continues to witness unparalleled progress, with investments in infrastructure, education, and security breathing new life into communities and reaffirming the government’s commitment to its citizens.
