Former minister of works, Dr(Arc) Mike Onolomemen has saluted workers in Nigeria, especially those in Edo State on the occasion of the 2024 Workers Day celebration.
The Adolor of Uromi and foremost 2024 Edo State gubernatorial hopeful, who sent this message to Truthlivenews said;
“I am using this year’s commemoration of Workers’ Day to salute workers in Nigeria, especially those in Edo State for their enormous contribitions towards nation building.
“We must acknowledge under the extreme economic conditions in which workers operate but still contribute their quota to the development and growth of all sectors in the country. I thank workers for their resilience and dedication, as well as their collectiveness in making our nation and state prosperous.
“Although some states have embacked on prompt improved salary payments and several institutional reforms in the face of our scarce resources, more still need to be done to bring the welfare of workers to international best standard.
“Workers need to be remunerated according to the prevailing economic reality, the health and general welfare of workers must be enhanced, their work enviroments must be comfortable and habitatable, plans for their pensions and gratituities must be made so that they can be getting payments regularly immediately they retire.
“Goverments should also look at on-duty job trainings that will help workers to adapt to life after retirement so that they can have alternative source of income as senior citizens. These could range from agricultural to business trainings and investments.”
Onomelemen added in his statement that he wishes that workers celebrate this year’s May Day in good heath and high spirits, as they are the cornerstone in which the nation is built and ticks.
