The National Programmes Manager, Youth Empowerment and Social Support Operations (YESSO) Comrade Richard Romanus, has unveiled plans to carry out vocational training and skills acquisition for youths of Niger Delta region.
Romanus revealed the plans when he visited the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Rtd Major Gen Barry Ndiomu, in Abuja.
The visit had been based on the need to partner with relevant institutions to drive the YESSO 2.0 core mandate on youth Empowerment, Manager said.
Romanus plans to build vocational and skills acquisition centres across six geo political zones in Nigeria.
During the visit he had also announced that this was in line with the Hon Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu’s effort in supporting the President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
“Because of the peculiarities of the region to help in reducing tension caused by youth unemployment, the collaboration with the Presidential Amnesty Programme is important,” he said.
While receiving the YESSO programme manager on visit, Gen Barry Ndiomu, said there have to be “deliberate efforts” to fix the Niger Delta.
Ndiomu, announced that the Presidential Amnesty programme already had six vocational training centres at different stages of completion across the Niger Delta region.
He said considering the importance of the region in the economy of Nigeria, serious attention would be given to oil and gas, agriculture, energy related skill, and maritime vocational skills etc.
In his sense of judgement Ndiomu, said skill acquisition and job creation were necessary for the development of the region and would go a long way to ease unemployment-related tension.
He congratulated Comrade Richard Romanus on his new appointment and described YESSO programme as strategic partners in youth Empowerment.
