Anambra, Nigeria
In a significant political development, Hon. Chinwe Clara Nnabuife, representing Orumba North and Orumba South Federal Constituency of Anambra State, has officially defected from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Truth Live News gathered that her defection was announced during Thursday’s plenary session, where Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu read her letter of resignation from the YPP. In the letter, Nnabuife cited exclusion from party activities as a key reason for her departure.
Born on October 17, 1971, in Orumba, Anambra State, Nnabuife obtained a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in 1991. She began her career as a Principal Information Executive with the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) before venturing into real estate development. Her political journey commenced in 2019, and she secured her current seat in the House of Representatives in 2023 under the YPP platform.
Prior to Nnabuife’s defection, the YPP held a minimal presence in the National Assembly. In the Senate, the YPP secured one seat during the 2019 general elections. In the House of Representatives, the YPP had one seat, occupied by Nnabuife herself. Her defection effectively leaves the YPP without representation in the House.
Nnabuife’s return to APGA is noteworthy, especially with the Anambra gubernatorial elections on the horizon. APGA, being the ruling party in the state, may leverage her defection to consolidate support in the Orumba region. Her influence and grassroots connections could bolster APGA’s campaign efforts, potentially swaying voters in favor of the party. Conversely, the YPP may face challenges in maintaining its foothold in Anambra, given the loss of one of its prominent figures. This shift underscores the dynamic nature of political allegiances in the lead-up to the elections.
Nnabuife’s defection not only alters the composition of the National Assembly but also adds a new dimension to the political strategies of parties contesting in the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial polls.
