Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has once again declared that his government will not negotiate with bandits, underscoring that military action is the key approach to resolving the state’s security issues.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, obtained by Truth Live News, the governor clarified that some media had misconstrued his recent BBC Hausa Service interview, leading to confusion about the state’s stance on security.
According to the statement, several reports had misinterpreted the governor’s words, attempting to deceive the public regarding the government’s strategy against banditry.
Governor Lawal emphasized his commitment to an aggressive military campaign against bandits, which he claims has already shown significant results in pacifying troubled regions.
“The issue of banditry has been a major concern for the people of Zamfara, the Northwest, and the entire country for decades,” the statement noted.
“Governor Lawal made security his top priority even before the 2023 elections, and he has remained steadfast in his resolve not to negotiate with criminals. Any form of negotiation can only happen from a position of strength, with bandits unconditionally surrendering their weapons and repenting.”
No Negotiations with Killers
The statement further asserted that negotiating from a position of weakness is not an option for any responsible government.
“Our position remains clear and undisputed: we will not negotiate with killers. The strategy we are implementing to combat banditry is yielding results, with reports of improved security and the elimination of numerous bandits,” the statement concluded.
Governor Lawal reassured that his administration will continue its vigorous efforts to restore complete peace throughout Zamfara State.
