No fewer than Seventeen person’s have been confirmed dead after a boat capsized at Dandeji Village of Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the local Council, Aliyu Dantani disclosed that the 17 persons mostly boys and girls have been confirmed dead while few passengers escaped.
According to him, local divers are still searching for some missing persons.
It was gathered that the boat was carrying over 40 girls and boys that went to fetch firewood at a nearby bush before the they met their untimely deaths.
Dantani said the remains of the victims which were recovered by local divers have been buried according to Islamic rites.
