The People Democratic Party PDP, presidential candidate for the just concluded 2023 presidential election Atiku Abubakar, says he could not understand why the electoral umpire was in such a hurry to conclude collation and announcement of results giving the numbers of complains and irregularities.
He made this known to newsmen while addressing a press conference in Abuja,the Capital City of Nigeria.
Recall that Truth Live News on Wednesday reported that Independent National Electoral Commission INEC ‘s chairman Prof Yakubu Mahmood announced the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential elections, four days after the election which was held on Saturday February 25.
He said having consulted with the leaders of his party over the announcement of finals results of the Saturday’s elections by INEC, he was encouraged to challenge the process in Court.
Abubakar who came second after pulling 6,984,520 votes in 12 states wondered why INEC was in such a hurry to announce results amidst Irregularities.
The former Vice president of Nigeria who recalled that even 1993 presidential election was adjudged the freest and fairest in the history of Nigeria’s democracy, said that “the last Saturday 2023 presidential and National assembly elections were grossly flawed with Irregularities and as such it must be challenged by all.
According to him, “the weekend presidential and national assembly elections was neither free nor fair. Preliminary assessment shows that it’s the worst conducted election since the return of the democracy in Nigeria.”
While explaining the state of affairs, he said his commitment to enthrone democracy, is that he joins forces with other compatriots noting that the 2023 presidential election has presented to Nigerians opportunity for reset.
Atiku, further described the election as full of complains and irregularities, cancellations and disenfranchisement of million Voters and call it a rape, as his heart is full of sadness.
