The Edo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that hoodlums set a police station ablaze in Ekpoma, describing the information as false and misleading.
This was made known on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who said no police station or facility was touched by fire, stressing that the reports were deliberately spread to misinform the public and create panic.
He clarified that the only fire incident recorded happened on Sunday morning at the POWA Shops area within the Ekpoma Police Division and not at any police station.
According to the command, officers, working alongside members of the public, responded swiftly and successfully put out the fire, preventing it from spreading further.
The police confirmed that no life was lost, although the value of damaged property is still being assessed.
He condemned the spread of unverified and sensational information and warned that misinformation can fuel fear, disrupt economic activities and threaten public safety urging residents to always verify claims before sharing.
